Product Stewardship Institute, Inc. (PSI) is a national non-profit environmental institute with membership from 47 states, over 200 local governments, and more than 75 businesses, organizations, universities, and non-U.S. governments. PSI establishes cooperative agreements to reduce the health and environmental impacts from consumer products.
PSI's mission is to pursue initiatives to ensure that all those involved in the lifecycle of a product share responsibility for reducing its health and environmental impacts, with producers bearing primary financial responsibility.
The Product Stewardship Institute envisions a society in which products are responsibly manufactured, used, and managed after use to conserve resources and protect the environment and human health.
Position Overview:
The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) seeks a highly organized, creative, and experienced Director of Communications and Marketing to develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing plan to increase the organization's visibility and sphere of influence, as well as to develop new funding opportunities. The Director will report to the Chief Executive Officer, and will manage an Associate of Outreach and Communications. PSI is conducting cutting-edge work on product stewardship and sustainability, and seeks someone who has the energy and expertise to play an integral role in developing the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy, including the expansion of PSI's membership, partnership, and advisory council; webinar series; and other educational and outreach programs.
- Develop and oversee the distribution of a newsletter, Product Stewardship News Updates, Member/Partner Call Agendas, and other communications.
- Develop, write, and distribute communications and marketing materials, including press releases and event announcements.
- Guide the organization's use of social media and other digital marketing tools, including the website and blog.
- Work with the policy team to edit and write grant proposals and submissions.
- Manage and mentor one Associate of Outreach and Communications, and interns.
- Maintain and develop steady strong relationships with PSI members, partners, and Advisory Council members, and grow these programs through communications, marketing, and maintenance of contact databases. Coordinate welcome e-mails, renewals, and surveys.
- Participate with other senior staff in strategic planning discussions.
Qualifications:
- At least 10 years experience in communications, marketing, and development; preference for the environmental field, non-profit organizations, and product stewardship.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, including exceptional writing, presentation, publicity, and marketing skills, and the ability to translate ideas into clear, compelling marketing materials, proposals, and presentations. Ability to communicate via video a plus.
- Big-picture, creative, strategic thinker with a positive "let's make it happen" attitude.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team to achieve a common mission.
- Ability to identify, engage, and take the initiative to build relationships with potential clients and partners.
- Demonstrated success in managing, mentoring, training, and motivating junior level staff.
Compensation: Commensurate with experience (includes a generous benefits package)
