'Bigfoot' is part human, claims study based on purported Sasquatch DNA

Because the Texas veterinarian has released no information at all about her findings (nor have they been examined by outside experts), it's impossible to evaluate the validity of her conclusions.

Genetic testing confirms the legendary Bigfoot is a human relative that arose some 15,000 years ago ? at least according to a press release issued by a company called DNA Diagnostics detailing supposed work by a Texas veterinarian.

The release and alleged study by Melba S. Ketchum also suggests such cryptids had sex with modern human females that resulted in hairy hominin hybrids, but the scientific community is dubious about her claim.

"A team of scientists can verify that their five-year long DNA study, currently under peer-review, confirms the existence of a novel hominin hybrid species, commonly called 'Bigfoot' or 'Sasquatch,' living in North America," the release reads. "Researchers' extensive DNA sequencing suggests that the legendary Sasquatch is a human relative that arose approximately 15,000 years ago."

For her study, Ketchum obtained three "whole nuclear genomes from purported?Sasquatch?samples. The genome sequencing shows that Sasquatch mtDNA is identical to modern?Homo sapiens, but Sasquatch nuDNA is a novel, unknown hominin related to?Homo sapiens?and other primate species." (Mitochondrial DNA, or mtDNA, is the DNA that resides in the cell's energy-producing structures, and is typically passed down from mothers, while nuclear DNA, nuDNA, resides in the cells' nuclei and is passed down from both parents to offspring.)

"Our data indicate that the North American Sasquatch is a hybrid species, the result of males of an unknown hominin species crossing with female Homo sapiens," the statement reads. [Infographic: Tracking Belief in Bigfoot]

Any proof?

It's a fascinating theory.

So where's the evidence? Well, there is none. Not yet, anyway: Ketchum's research has not appeared in any peer-reviewed scientific journal, and there's no indication when that might happen. If the data are good and the science is sound, any reputable science journal would jump at the chance to be the first to publish this groundbreaking information. Until then, Ketchum has refused to let anyone else see her evidence.

Of course the?history of Bigfoot?is rife with exaggerated and premature claims about?proof of the creature's existence. For decades, various types of evidence have been offered as final, definitive proof, ranging from Bigfoot hair to blood to dead bodies. Without exception, the evidence has always been hoaxed, misidentification or inconclusive.

Because Ketchum has released no information at all about her findings (nor have they been examined by outside experts), it's impossible to evaluate the validity of her conclusions. But an important clue can be found in her statement that "Sasquatch mtDNA is identical to modern?Homo sapiens."

If the mitochontrial DNA is identical to?Homo sapiens?(i.e., modern humans), then this suggests one of two options. The first, endorsed by Ketchum, is that Bigfoot ancestors had sex with women about 15,000 years ago and created a half-human hybrid species currently hiding across North America. [Rumor or Reality: The Creatures of Cryptozoology]

There is, however, another, simpler interpretation of such results: The samples were contaminated. Whatever the sample originally was ? Bigfoot, bear, human or something else ? it's possible that the people who collected and handled the specimens accidentally introduced their DNA into the sample, which can easily occur with something as innocent as a spit, sneeze or cough. No one outside of Ketchum's team knows how this alleged Bigfoot DNA was collected, from where or by whom. It could have been collected by the world's top forensics experts, or by a pair of amateur Bigfoot buffs with no evidence-gathering training.

Confirming it's Bigfoot

How did the team definitively determine that the samples were from a Bigfoot? Did they take a blood or saliva sample from?a living Bigfoot? If so, how did they get that close, and why didn't they simply capture it or photograph it? If the samples were found in the wild, how do they know it wasn't left by another animal ? or possibly even a hunter, hiker or camper who left human genetic material?

Previous alleged Bigfoot samples subjected to DNA analysis have been deemed "unknown" or "unidentified." However, "unknown" or "unidentified" results do not mean "Bigfoot." There are many reasons why a DNA sample might come back unknown, including that it was contaminated or too degraded by environmental conditions. Or it could simply mean that the animal it came from was not among the reference samples that the laboratory used for comparison. There is no reference sample of?Bigfoot DNA?to compare it with, so by definition, there cannot be a conclusive match.

Ketchum also issued a statementrequesting that the U.S. government immediately recognize Bigfoot as "an indigenous people and immediately protect their human and Constitutional rights against those who would see in their physical and cultural differences a 'license' to hunt, trap, or?kill them." Since no Bigfoot has ever been hunted, trapped or killed, it's not clear that the creatures ? if they exist ? require any special federal protection.

Ketchum's is not the only genetics-based project intended to find Bigfoot. Earlier this year, researchers from Oxford University and the Lausanne Museum of Zoology announced they were collecting samples of?alleged Bigfoot and Yeti hair?for genetic identification. Oxford geneticist Bryan Sykes collected materials from the public from May through September, and is currently conducting DNA analysis. Once the results are in, he plans to submit his results to a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

If Ketchum has the definitive proof she claims, the world will soon know about it, and Bigfoot will be proven once and for all. On the other hand, if the evidence never appears, or is inconclusive and flawed, the search will continue.

USA's ancient hurricane belt and the US-Canada equator

The recent storms that have battered settlements on the east coast of America may have been much more frequent in the region 450 million years ago, according to scientists. New research pinpointing the positions of the Equator and the landmasses of the USA, Canada and Greenland, during the Ordovician Period 450 million years ago, indicates that the equator ran down the western side of North America with a hurricane belt to the east.

The hurricane belt would have affected an area covering modern day New York State, New Jersey and most of the eastern seaboard of the USA.

An international research team led by Durham University, UK, used the distribution of fossils and sediments to map the line of the Ordovician Equator down to southern California.

The study, published in the journal Geology, is the first to accurately locate and map the ancient Equator and adjacent tropical zones.

Previous studies had fuelled controversy about the precise location of the ancient equator. The researchers say the new results show how fossils and sediments can accurately track equatorial change and continental shifts over time.

Co-lead author Professor David Harper, Department of Earth Sciences, Durham University, UK, said: "The equator, equatorial zones and hurricane belts were in quite different places in the Ordovician.

It is likely that the weather forecast would have featured frequent hurricane-force storms in New York and other eastern states, and warmer, more tropical weather from Seattle to California."

Since Polar Regions existed 450 million years ago, the scientists believe that there would have been similar climate belts to those of today.

The research team from Durham University, UK, and universities in Canada, Denmark and the USA, discovered a belt of undisturbed fossils and sediments -deposits of shellfish- more than 6000 km long stretching from the south-western United States to North Greenland.

The belt also lacks typical storm-related sedimentary features where the deposits are disturbed by bad weather. The researchers say that this shows that the Late Ordovician equatorial zone, like the equatorial zone today, had few hurricane-grade storms.

In contrast, sedimentary deposits recorded on either side of the belt provide evidence of disturbance by severe storms. Hurricanes tend to form in the areas immediately outside of equatorial zones where temperatures of at least 260C combine with the Earth's rotation to create storms.

The researchers believe that hurricane belts would probably have existed on either side of the ancient equator, within the tropics.

The position of the equatorial belt, defined by undisturbed fossil accumulations and sediments, is coincident with the Late Ordovician equator interpreted from magnetic records (taken from rocks of a similar age from the region). This provides both a precise equatorial location and confirms that the Earth's magnetic field operated much in the same way as it does today.

The scientists pieced together the giant jigsaw map using the evidence of the disturbed and undisturbed sedimentary belts together with burrows and shells. Using the findings from these multiple sites, they were able to see that North America sat on either side of the Equator.

Co-author Christian Rasmussen, University of Copenhagen, said: "The layers of the earth build up over time and are commonly exposed by plate tectonics. We are able to use these ancient rocks and their fossils as evidence of the past to create an accurate map of the Ordovician globe."

Professor Harper added: "The findings show that we had the same climate belts of today and we can see where North America was located 450 million years ago, essentially on the Equator."

"While the Equator has remained in approximately the same place over time, the landmasses have shifted dramatically over time through tectonic movements. The undisturbed fossil belt helps to locate the exact position of the ancient Laurentian landmass, now known as North America."

The study is funded by the Danish Council for Independent Research.

The Smartphone World Needs Microsoft

I admit it: When I read the news that Apple's share of U.S. smartphone sales skyrocketed with the launch of the iPhone 5 to surpass Android, I felt a momentary note of satisfaction. In the last 12 weeks, Android gobbled up 46.7 percent of smartphone sales while the iPhone nabbed 48.1 percent, according to data from Kantar Worldpanel.

SEO Charleston - Work On the Internet

In the last few years, SEO Charleston programs have become overly popular among South Carolina's finest online businesses. Behind this tale of success is a firm foundation of professional and highly skilled online marketing programs. What is the secret behind the success of these southern entrepeneurs?

Among online vendors it is now common knowledge that launching a website or an online portal is just the first step towards running a successful online business. The next and most important step involves attracting traffic to the site, maintaining these visitors, and converting the traffic into actual sales. This process involves precise, rigorous and skillful online marketing. Today, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ranks as the best, cheapest and most natural way to market a website. SEO South Carolina enables a website to attract internet users from such search engines as Google, Bing and Yahoo, by ranking the website high on the organic search results pages returned by these search engines for relevant keywords and phrases.

It is certainly worth appreciating the fact that a good number of South Carolina businesses are now enjoying online success courtesy of quality SEO. Businesses that seek to prosper in the same way must realize that not just any SEO attempt can produce brilliant results. Achieving optimal success with a SEO program is a progressive process rather than a short-term engagement. In this a business must devote substantial resources, effort and time to building and maintaining SEO-rich landing pages replete with adequate outbound and internal links, precisely placed search phrases, and highly targeted content. Oftentimes website owners lack the training, skills, time and determination to create and maintain what is truly a SEO success story. Nonetheless, for those who know the value of SEO-based marketing, the best option is always to outsource the SEO South Carolina program from professional service providers.

What makes a SEO program in Charleston or South Carolina at large successful? How can a successful SEO program be created? The secret is in four steps. To begin with, a successful SEO program begins with a strategic analysis of the target market. Each market niche targeted by a business has specific keywords and phrases that are used by internet users to search for products or services. A detailed strategic analysis will help to identify the most useful keywords and phrases for a business, which can then be optimized for search engines results.

Once the appropriate keywords and phrases are identified, the next step of a successful SEO South Carolina program is meticulous, organized implementation. The website owner needs to contract a team of skilled and experienced copywriters to develop SEO-rich contents precisely targeted at facilitating search engine spiders crawling. The contents must provide valuable information to the site's visitors while also attracting favorable ranking by the search engines. Enriching these contents with backlinks is well advised.

The third stage of the process is tracking the results of the implementation stage. Tracking will enable an online vendor to track the successes or failures of his or her online marketing efforts on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. Tracking will also allow the SEO Charleston program to evaluate results and make progressive amends where necessary. The last step of the process involves reporting on the tracking results so that online marketers can take relevant steps towards consolidating their online business success.

Fall, recovery presentation to help seniors, families with prevention ...

Tuesday, November 27, 2012

The Center for Rural Development?in partnership with experts from Body Recall Inc.?is hosting a fall and recovery presentation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Somerset to help community, health, faith-based, and business leaders, healthcare professionals and providers, and interested citizens create and refine their strategic planning efforts enabling seniors to age in place while reducing healthcare costs through fall prevention and fall recovery techniques.
?

The presentation, led by Body Recall executive director Jeff Rubin, is provided as a community service and will focus on how falls and fall prevention impact the healthcare initiative.
?

?Body Recall is delighted to partner with the Center for Rural Development in bringing this subject of falls and recovery to the leaders and communities that the center serves,? said Rubin. ?As a leading cause of emergency room visits among just about every age group, this is an issue that has gained national attention because it impacts more than just the individual.
?

?Its financial, emotional, and physical costs are being felt by families, employers, communities, and our entire health-care system,? he added. ?That?s why it?s so important for us to be working together to educate people about the impacts of falls and demonstrate what can be done through Body Recall to prevent or reduce the severity of falls, if they do.?
?

During the program, Carolyn Wallace, a certified Body Recall instructor and trainer, and students from her fall recovery team (ranging in age from 56-90-plus) will provide an exercise demonstration to show what is possible at any age and with any ability through Body Recall exercises.
?

?We are excited to reach out to our community and provide information and exercise training seniors need to live happy, productive lives,? said Laura Glover, director of sales and events at the center. ?As our population continues to age, education on fall prevention and preventative fitness will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of older adults and our communities? health care costs.?
?

Body Recall, a national nonprofit organization founded in 1978 and headquartered in Berea, is a leader in designing and teaching fitness and flexibility training programs for older adults, special needs populations, and youth. It is the only training program that includes fall prevention and fall recovery techniques as part of its core curriculum.
?

The center, a nonprofit organization serving 45 counties in Southern and Eastern Kentucky, is located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset.
?

For more information about the free Body Recall presentation and demonstration, contact Laura Glover at the center at 606-677-6000 or register online at here.

Coal Is Doomed

Imagine I hand you the keys to an Apple Store.?

It's a big one, a warehouse-like, multiacre affair running floor-to-ceiling with Apple products in tightly packed rows. And it's yours to do with what you want.

Obviously, you'd sell everything. And within an hour, you'd be making money hand over fist. You'd have some costs?staff, bags, whatever?but nothing big. Customers would be lined up out the door. Even if I charged you a $5 fee for every device you sold, it's a spectacular deal.

After a while, though, things start to slow down, almost imperceptibly. You'd need more staff to pull items off shelves farther back in the store or closer to the ceiling. The hectic pace of extracting the right product would invariably lead to spills and clutter. More popular items like iPhone 5s would become harder to get to than things like first-generation iPads. But these are minor distractions.

Eventually, you start to sweat. You've given up your regular job to manage this massive moneymaker. It's taking you more and more time to find the products people want. It's not quite the cash cow it used to be. So I make a deal with you: If you find other Apple warehouses, I'll let you run those for the same fee. You dedicate staff to seeking out new stores, and you find some. But in each, the same problem repeats itself: a burst of high profits until products are harder to find.

Late one evening, the?New York Times?breaks a story revealing that the use of Apple products has been linked to serious, long-term health consequences. The effects are usually tiny, incremental but potentially serious; in very rare cases, they're suddenly fatal. There's some outcry, but the time lag and mental distance between use of the products and the health problems are great enough that most people ignore the link. The government promises to look into the problem, but in the interim, sales barely stumble at all.

But then you face a real problem. Something newer comes along. Better. Cheaper even than your bargain-basement prices, more popular, hipper. One day you're running an Apple Store. The next you are selling BlackBerry. Your customer base rapidly dries up. Customers in India and China are still eager to buy, but finding and shipping the products across the ocean proves harder than it looks.

You used to be the luckiest person in the world, blessed with the sweetest deal imaginable. Now, you run a string of stores in vacant malls with plummeting margins, unpopular products, and the looming specter that every BlackBerry you sell is the last nail in some poor fool's coffin.

You run, in short, a coal company. It is possible that there is a magic spell somewhere out in the world that can reverse the fortune of the coal industry. But the way things are going, that spell is buried deep underground where it's just far too expensive to get to. The American coal industry has key life-support mechanisms beeping by its bedside, but it's doomed.

That's difficult to deal with, particularly if you're the owner of a coal company. It's hard to deal with if you're a coal miner or live in a coal community. Coal has been so successful for so long, its halo of economic benefit so wide, that affection for coal is in some places religious. At tourist shops in West Virginia you can buy statuettes carved from coal, including crucifixes. Coal mines were once portals into the middle class. In the future they won't be.

The Apple Store analogy is the birth and decline of the coal industry in brief.

The good products are harder and more expensive to get to. After decades of extraction, rich seams of high-quality coal that run near the surface?have been exhausted. The Department of Energy's Energy Information Administration suggests that the United States?has enough coal reserves to last 239 years. In a breezy aside, it notes that "advancements in mining technologies have tended to compensate" for difficulties in extraction. "Mountaintop removal" mining is one such advancement. Coal companies simply blow apart the tops of hills instead of digging mine shafts, saving time and expense. (This haphazard process has?polluted more than one-fifth of streams in southern West Virginia.)

Other coal companies have turned to lower-quality coal, like?high-sulfur coal from Illinois, because the economic advantage of easy access to high-quality coal has vanished. Digging deeper and longer for higher-quality coal is not much cheaper than easily digging up lower-quality coal and running it through better "scrubbers," devices that remove the sulfur from emissions. Remember those scrubbers. We'll come back to them.

FDA suspends operations at peanut butter plant

(AP) ? The Food and Drug Administration is cracking down on a New Mexico peanut butter plant that had repeated food safety violations over several years, using new authority to halt operations at facilities that may be producing unsafe food.

The agency on Monday suspended the registration of Sunland Inc., which is the country's largest organic peanut butter processor. FDA officials found salmonella in numerous locations in Sunland's processing plant after 41 people in 20 states, most of them children, were sickened by peanut butter manufactured at the Portales, N.M., plant and sold at the Trader Joe's grocery chain. The company had announced plans to reopen its peanut processing facility on Tuesday after voluntarily shutting down earlier this fall.

The FDA gained the new authority to suspend companies' registrations in a food safety law signed by President Barack Obama in early 2011, and this is the first time the agency has used it. The ability to shut down the company's operations is a step forward in an FDA effort to stem a growing number of widespread outbreaks like the salmonella illnesses linked to the peanut butter, said Michael Taylor, the FDA's deputy commissioner for foods.

Before the food safety law was enacted, the FDA would have had to go to court to suspend a company's registration.

"We would have had to go to court and build a case," Taylor said, stressing that the burden will now be on the company to prove it is safe.

Sunland had closed its peanut processing facility after the September outbreak. It planned to reopen this week with hopes of selling peanut butter again by the end of the year. Sunland spokeswoman Katalin Coburn said the FDA's decision to suspend the registration was a surprise to the company and Sunland officials had assumed they would be allowed to resume operations.

The company now has the right to a hearing and must prove to the agency that its facilities are clean enough to reopen. Coburn said Sunland is cooperating with the FDA and company officials hope they can be operating again soon.

Besides organic peanut butter, Sunland also produces many non-organic products. The company recalled hundreds of organic and non-organic nut butters and nuts manufactured since 2010 after Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Peanut Butter was linked to the salmonella illnesses in September.

In addition to Trader Joe's, Sunland sold hundreds of different peanut products to Target, Safeway, Whole Foods and other large grocery chains. Many of the grocery stores repackaged Sunland products and sold them under their own names.

After the outbreak linked to Sunland and to Trader Joe's, FDA inspectors found samples of salmonella in 28 different locations in the plant, in 13 nut butter samples and in one sample of raw peanuts.

The agency also found improper handling of products, unclean equipment and uncovered trailers of peanuts that were exposed to rain and birds outside the facility.

The FDA said that over the past three years, the company shipped products even though portions of their lots, or daily production runs, tested positive for salmonella in internal tests. The agency also found that the internal tests failed to find salmonella when it was present.

FDA inspectors found many of the same problems, including employees putting their bare fingers in empty jars before they were filled, open bags of ingredients, unclean equipment and many other violations, in a 2007 inspection. Similar issues were recorded by inspectors in 2009, 2010 and 2011, although government officials didn't take any action or release the results of those inspections until after the illnesses were discovered this year.

In a statement issued earlier this month, Sunland's president and chief executive officer, Jimmie Shearer, denied the company knowingly shipped tainted products.

"At no time in its 24-year history has Sunland Inc. released for distribution any products that it knew to be potentially contaminated with harmful microorganisms," Shearer said in a statement posted on the company's website. "In every instance where test results indicated the presence of a contaminant, the implicated product was destroyed and not released for distribution."

A separate peanut butter outbreak in 2009, not related to Sunland, was linked to hundreds of illnesses and nine deaths.

Toddlers And Christmas Trees: Helping Them Get Along?

Random elegant Christmas tree photo.
Image from here.

Last year on the weekend after Thanksgiving, we went and picked out our first real live Christmas tree, with the hopes of making it a family tradition at the start of the holiday season each year. Thanksgiving weekend is here now ? but unlike last time around, when Lillian was a sleepy helpless little infant with pretty much zero interest in Christmas trees, we now have an inquisitive and increasingly mobile one-year-old on our hands. Which naturally leads one to wonder ? might this combination be a recipe for disaster? Is a Christmas tree even a good idea this year?

To shed some light on this question, I thought I?d search around the internet for any tips, advice, and strategies people may have found useful for ensuring the healthy coexistence of their babies or toddlers and Christmas trees. There?s quite a lot out there, and much of the advice seems to go something like this:

  • Get a smaller tree and put it up on a shelf or table
  • Block the tree off using furniture or a child gate
  • Keep the tree in another room closed off from the baby / toddler

But these kinds of tips, while being probably the most fool-proof, don?t seem to be quite what we?re looking for ? ideally we would like to have a standard-size Christmas tree in the living room by the fireplace like we did last year, and having to block it off with gates or furniture seems like it would dampen the atmosphere and eat up a lot of the remaining space in the already modestly-sized room.

Upon searching further, I came upon this article which has a number of discussion replies on this subject ? some a bit off-the-wall, like this little gem:

?My husband made my daughter terrified to touch the tree! She thought it would eat her. He would stick his hand in the tree and then scream like it was hurting him! It worked, she never touched it!?

I?ll admit, I laughed out loud when I first read that ? but as amusing as the strategy sounds, I think I?d be worried about giving our child some kind of long-lasting irrational fear of Christmas trees.

For some more serious and possibly helpful suggestions, the AAP has an article here with holiday safety tips, some tree-related. And there?s a good article on WikiHow about cat-proofing your Christmas tree which has a lot of tips that could just as easily apply to babies and toddlers.

One more interesting suggestion comes from this post by a blogger with three kids under age three, and it seems like a really simple and clever idea:

?My favorite and best trick of all is to line the whole bottom of your tree with jingle bells!!! On every branch around the bottom of my tree I have put small silver bells that jingle every time someone touches the tree. They are baby safe and when the tree moves or someone is touching it I hear it immediately!?

So after going through all of these tips and ideas, here is our current plan for this year?s Christmas tree:

  • Weigh down the stand to reduce the risk of the tree tipping over
  • Use only non-breakable ornaments, and nothing small enough to be a choking hazard
  • Securely fasten ornaments to branches using strings or ribbons instead of hooks
  • Select a fresh tree, keep it watered, and sweep / vacuum regularly to minimize stray needles
  • Try the jingle bell trick to create a built-in baby alarm

These measures seem like they should be pretty effective for preventing most of the problems that could potentially arise ? and worst case scenario, we can always have the backup plan of moving the tree down to the basement, or getting rid of it entirely, if things don?t seem to be working out.

What do you think? Have you ever had a Christmas tree with a mobile baby or young toddler in the house? How did things turn out? I?d love to hear any stories or advice on this matter!

DOT fines Travelzoo over code-share disclosures

3 hrs.

The U.S. Department of Transportation is fining online travel company Travelzoo Inc. $50,000 for failing to properly disclose to consumers that they were selling flights operated by airlines using code-sharing arrangements.

Under code-sharing arrangements, an airline will sell tickets on flights that use its own designator code but are actually operated by a separate airline. Federal rules require airlines and ticket agents to disclose to consumers, before they book a flight, if the flight is operated under a code-sharing arrangement.

"Passengers deserve to know which airline will be operating their flight before they purchase their tickets," U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said in a statement.

The federal department also ordered Travelzoo to cease and desist from future violations

A representative for Travelzoo was not immediately available to comment.

Excerpts from persistent Wis. protesters' songbook

A group of about 50 Wisconsin demonstrators has been singing protest songs inside the Madison Capitol every day at noon for almost two years. Their target is Republican Gov. Scott Walker, who pushed a law stripping public employees of certain labor rights. The demonstrators have a songbook of 44 songs, many of them traditional songs that have had the lyrics changed to target Walker.

Here are excerpts from a sampling of songs:

? "We Shall Overcome" ? "We shall overcome, we shall overcome, we shall overcome some day. ... Oh, deep in my heart I do believe Walker won't be governor some day."

? "This Land is Your Land" ? "This house is your house, this house is my house, from the rotunda to the governor's office. Scott Walker will never push us out. This house was made for you and me."

? "When We Make Peace," sung to the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In" ? "When there's respect, for workers' rights, when there's respect for workers' rights, oh I want to be in that number, when there's respect for workers' rights."

? "It Isn't Nice" ? "We have tried negotiations, and crossin' the state line. Somehow Walker didn't see us ? you know, he might as well be blind. Now our new ways aren't nice, when we deal with men of ice, but if that is freedom's price, we don't mind."

? "Pass the Cheddar," sung to the tune of "Jambalaya" ? "Goodbye Scott, you gotta go, me oh my oh, you're as harmful as your buddy in Ohio. To prevent you from further destruction, we will protest all over Wisconsin."

? "Oh, Scott Walker," sung to the tune of "Oh, Susanna" ? "Oh, Scott Walker, now don't you mess with me. I come from all Wisconsin with a sign for you to see. Well, it snowed all day that Saturday, the people didn't care. Their cause so hot it kept them warm, and thousands filled the square. Now I come from all Wisconsin with my ballot in my hand, and I say to you Republicans I'm gonna take a stand."

? "Scotty, We're Comin' for You" ? "I never knew how much I loved Wisconsin, 'till I stood in the Capitol dome. Signs on the walls and drums in the halls, cries of "Freedom!" ringing out all night long. All of us standing together, teachers in red, cops in blue. Hundreds of thousands show people have power. So tell me what are we gonna do? Scotty, we're coming for you!"

Saudi regulator suspends Mobily from selling SIM cards

(Reuters) - Etihad Etisalat Co (Mobily), Saudi Arabia's second-biggest telecoms operator, has asked to meet the industry regulator after it was suspended from selling pre-paid SIM cards, a company spokesman said, describing the ban as "astonishing".

Mobily's sales of pre-paid, or pay-as-you-go SIM cards will remain halted until the company "fully meets the pre-paid service provisioning requirements," the firm said in a statement.

"We're not sure when we can resume selling pre-paid SIM cards," said a company spokesman. We've requested a meeting with the CITC governor today to find out what's going on," he added, in reference to the regulator.

In an earlier order the Communication and Information Technology Commission said that from September 28 all pre-paid SIM users must enter a personal identification number when recharging their accounts and this number must be the same as the one registered with their mobile operator when the SIM card was bought.

This applies not only to Mobily but also to rival operators Saudi Telecom Co (STC) and Zain Saudi.

"This isn't just about Mobily - other operators also haven't complied and so we're astonished we've been singled out," said Mobily's spokesman. "We've done a huge campaign to inform customers about the ID requirement."

The company has yet to comply with the order because not all customers have updated their details, he said.

Mobily said the financial impact of the CITC's decision would be "insignificant", claiming data, corporate and "post-paid" contract revenues would be its main growth drivers.

"This could have a significant impact on Mobily's Q4 earnings - it depends on how quickly the company resolves this," said Asim Bukhtiar, Riyad Capital's head of research.

"Newcomers and visitors buy new SIM cards and if Mobily can't target this market it will affect the business."

The new SIM registration requirements are a security measure.

"From a CITC perspective it gives them better information on who is using pre-paid cards - there were a lot of SIM cards floating around that were not registered to anyone," added Bukhtiar.

Pre-paid mobile subscriptions are typically more popular among middle and lower income groups, with telecom operators pushing customers to shift to monthly contracts that include a data allowance.

Shares in Mobily, which reported an estimate-beating 23 percent rise in third-quarter profits in October, were down 2.1 percent at 1202 GMT on the Saudi bourse.

No one at STC or Zain Saudi was immediately available for comment.

Tips to Writing a Good Real Estate Sale Contract | Modern Dignity ...

Tips to Writing a Good Real Estate Sale Contract

An estate sale contract is formed when one party has an offer and another party chooses to accept what the first party offered. By law, the government requires that agreements on real estate needs to be enforceable. In order for the agreement to be legally binding, the offer and acceptance needs to be in writing and signed by both parties involved in the deal. Thus, a contract should be drafted with the clarity and simplicity both parties must be able comprehend with ease.

?

As always, you have to know your money or better yet, where a substantial part of your hard earned money will be going, which is the case in estate purchase. Real estate is easily the most significant investment an average person makes through his lifetime. In the old days, lawyers used to handle every aspect that needs to be taken care of in an estate liquidation. Today, the job is broken down into several responsibilities each taken cared by a separate job title such as insurance agent, broker and a lawyer. If you happen to be in the process of drafting an estate sale contract, the following are important tips to come up with a good one:

Use of Correct Legal Names

I feel that no one can state this enough since it is the most common mistake contracts with disputes have. Even with its seemingly extreme obviousness, terrible problems may arise from the very simple blunder of missing a letter, misspelling a name and not adding a name prefix or title. A sound contract always have the correct legal names list of all the parties involved in the sale who are expected to perform any of the agreed terms in the contract.

Use As Much Reference as Possible

Download forms on the internet, get copies of State forms applicable or related to what you?re drafting and ask the seller if he/she has in his possession a previous contract of the same nature. Having a template jumpstarts what you?re trying to do quickly. Getting a copy of a contract as closely related to the terms that are being agreed upon is very important because you are already covering a huge part of the bases, clauses and agreements contained in a good estate contract. Much of the work would already be completedfor you and you?ll just have to cover the next tips below.

Think Of All Possible ?What Ifs? Scenarios

A sound contract should also include anticipated shortcomings that may directly affect a party from performing his duties. The contract should also state what are the allowable and unacceptable? ?behavior or actions of a party. It should clearly state how much will be the leeway and what would be taken as a violation from which the other party who was violated can take legal action. Here is where a lawyer is most helpful. Consider a brainstorming session with a lawyer in which both would contribute scenarios of problems that might ?may occur.

Broaden All Technical Terms or Jargons

Both parties may have understanding of all words and terms included on the contracts they would agree upon, but it is important also to consider outsiders. Think of how the arbitrator, jury or a judge would react for not being able to understand the jargons you?ve used on your contracts. They are of course going to be the ones who both parties would expect to resolve if there would be any conflicts.

If there would be any indifference that would occur in the future between the two parties directly involved in the estate sale contract, resolving it would be much faster if their signatures are not alone in the contract. Also, identify the witnesses for both parties and include their contacts and addresses. Having them makes it unlikely for a single party to go astray from the agreement in the future.

My name is Robert Elliott and I?m a successful financial author. Looking back, I remember being a boy who does not enjoy much of the games regular boys play at that time. At a very young age, my dad taught me how to handle money. I was hooked with money making matters ever since. My dad told me to ?know your money? and be really good at how you?re getting it.
