Farrah Abraham has gone under the knife again, this time the Teen Mom star reportedly underwent rhinoplasty and got a chin implant. Two years after permitting MTV to film her breast augmentation, the reality show star allegedly felt she also needed a bigger chin.
Dr. Michael Salzhaur, of Miami, noted he gave Farrah a larger chin to ?balance the alignment? of her face, according to Radar Online. Although the rhinoplasty and chin implant took less than one hour, the Teen Mom star noted it was still painful ? ?but worth it.?
During an interview with In Touch magazine, Abraham had this to say about her plastic surgery:
?I?ve hated my nose since I was 13. I don?t have to hate anything on my face ever again. I feel gorgeous.?
While the young mother hoped her new look would help both her love life and her career, she insisted the plastic surgery decision was prompted by insecurity. The breast augmentation surgery allegedly set the Teen Mom star back $5,000. The facial plastic surgery enhancements allegedly carried a heftier price tag. Abraham reportedly shelled out $16,000 for her new chin and rhinoplasty.
The 21-year-old television star?s decision to engage in multiple plastic surgeries at such a young age has drawn backlash and concern from some. Farrah reportedly feels she has waited long enough to have some work done.
The MTV star had this to say about her decision to go forward with more augmentation and enhancement surgeries:
?It?s said that if you?re happier, you have better luck with relationships. I wanted to be fully developed, and I feel 21 is that age. I?ve told her [daughter Sophia] that mommy just wants to be a beautiful butterfly.?

ScienceDaily (Oct. 22, 2012) ? It has long been known that breast density, or mammographic density, is a strong risk factor for breast cancer, and that estrogen and progestin hormone therapy increases dense breast tissue. Now, a study published in BioMed Central's open access journal Breast Cancer Research has identified several gene variants in hormone metabolism and growth factor pathways that may be associated with breast density and, hence, breast cancer risk.
Mammographic density relates to the fact that x-rays permeate different types of breast tissue in different ways, leading to white areas on the mammogram. Fatty tissue appears on the mammogram as relatively translucent, whereas dense breast tissue contains more stromal tissue and epithelial cells, appearing as white areas. Women with a breast density of 75% or more have a 4-5 times higher risk of developing breast cancer than women of the same age with little or no density.
Controversy exists over why breast density is a cancer risk. Many studies suggest that density is at least partially inherited, and twin studies show that genetic factors do play a role in the variation observed. Breast density decreases naturally with older age and menopause, but also increases with hormone therapy. Merete Ellingjord-Dale and co-authors, from academic centers in Norway and Los Angeles, set out to investigate which genes could play a role in determining breast density. Because of the clear involvement of hormones, they were looking particularly for genes involved in hormone metabolism.
Using data from 2,036 women who participated in the Norwegian Breast Cancer Screening Program in 2004, and separating the participants into hormone therapy users and non-users, the authors found that different gene variants appeared to be important depending on the women's hormone therapy usage.
There was evidence to suggest that variants in the prolactin (PRL) gene were associated with breast density in users of estrogen and progestin, as well as norethisterone acetate (a common regimen in Nordic countries). In non-users of hormone therapy, variants in the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) and SULT1A1/2 genes were significantly associated with breast density.
The findings suggest that several genes in hormone metabolism and growth factor pathways are indeed implicated in determining breast density, and might increase breast cancer risk. Commenting on the findings, lead author, Merete Ellingjord-Dale said, "One reason it has been so difficult to pinpoint which genes are responsible for mammographic density is that the effect of some genetic variants may be amplified in combination with hormone therapy. Consequently in the presence of hormone therapy these genes cause increased density."
She continued, "It is important to consider both the genetic and non-genetic factors simultaneously. Exploring the functional role of gene variants associated with mammographic density could further clarify the biological mechanisms involved. "

In a landmark study, University of Otago researchers have achieved the feat of sequencing complete mitochondrial genomes for members of what was likely to be one of the first groups of Polynesians to settle New Zealand and have revealed a surprising degree of genetic variation among these pioneering voyagers.

Study director Professor Lisa Matisoo-Smith explains that mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is only inherited through the mother's side and can be used to trace maternal lineages and provide insights into ancient origins and migration routes.
"We found that three of the four individuals had no recent maternal ancestor in common, indicating that these pioneers were not simply from one tight-knit kin group, but instead included families that were not directly maternally related. This gives a fascinating new glimpse into the social structure of the first New Zealanders and others taking part in the final phases of the great Polynesian migration across the Pacific."
The researchers discovered that the four genomes shared two unique genetic markers found in modern Maori while also featuring several previously unidentified Polynesian genetic markers. Intriguingly, they also discovered that at least one of the settlers carried a genetic mutation associated with insulin resistance, which leads to Type 2 diabetes.
"Overall, our results indicate that there is likely to be significant mtDNA variation among New Zealand's first settlers. However, a lack of genetic diversity has previously been characterised in modern-day Maori and this was thought to reflect uniformity in the founding population.
"It may be rather that later decimation caused by European diseases was an important factor, or perhaps there is actually still much more genetic variation today that remains to be discovered. Possibly, it may have been missed due to most previous work only focusing on a small portion of the mitochondrial genome rather than complete analyses like ours."
Professor Matisoo-Smith and colleagues including ancient DNA analysis expert Dr Michael Knapp used Otago's state-of-the-art ancient DNA research facilities to apply similar techniques that other scientists recently employed to sequence the Neanderthal genome.
"We are very excited to be the first researchers to successfully sequence complete mitochondrial genomes from ancient Polynesian samples. Until the advent of next generation sequencing techniques, the highly degraded state of DNA in human remains of this age has not allowed such genomes to be sequenced," she says.
Now that the researchers have identified several unique genetic markers in New Zealand's founding population, work can begin to obtain and sequence other ancient and modern DNA samples from Pacific islands and search for these same markers.
"If such research is successful, this may help identify the specific island homelands of the initial canoes that arrived in Aotearoa/New Zealand 700 years ago," she says.
This research is the most recent output from the Wairau Bar Research Group, a collaboration between Otago researchers and Rangitane-ki-Wairau. The Otago research team is led by archaeologist Professor Richard Walter (Department of Anthropology and Archaeology), and biological anthropologists Associate Professor Hallie Buckley and Professor Matisoo-Smith (Department of Anatomy).

First excavated over 70 years ago, the Wairau Bar site is one of the most important archaeological sites in New Zealand because of its age and the range of material found there.
It is the site of a fourteenth century village occupied by some of the first generations of people who settled New Zealand. The material excavated from the site, most of which is now cared for in the collections at Canterbury Museum, provided the first conclusive evidence that New Zealand was originally settled from East Polynesia.
This discovery was first reported to the NZ public in 1950 by the late Dr Roger Duff, Director of Canterbury Museum, in his ground breaking book The Moahunter Period of Maori Culture. The principal evidence for his conclusions was in the artefacts found; however, the site also contained a large number of human burials.
Between 1938 and 1959 a total of 44 graves were excavated from the site and the grave contents taken to Canterbury Museum for study. For many years Marlborough Iwi, Rangitane, sought to have the remains repatriated so they could be reburied in the site and an agreement was reached with Canterbury Museum.
The reburial took place in April 2009, following earlier archaeological investigations of the site undertaken in collaboration with Rangitane.
A University of Otago-led multidisciplinary team of scientists have been analysing tooth samples recovered from the koiwi tangata (human remains) of the Rangitane iwi tupuna prior to their reburial. This work includes studies of the diet and health of the tupuna.

so yesterday i decided to try out the recipe from civilized caveman cooking for a balsamic roast. i basically had all the ingredients in my house (besides the roast, which a quick trip to the farm solved) and it sounded different and tasty.? plus we buy a balsamic vinegar from costco that is not only delicious, but in a giant bottle, so i always feel the need to cook with a lot of it whenever possible.
step 1 ? season & sear off the roast.
i used paprika, garlic salt, salt & pepper for seasoning and then seared it at high heat with coconut oil in my non stick. it was smoky in my kitchen for 5am, lol.? but we were rewarded with a beautiful sear on that little fucker. oh, it was a small beef top sirloin roast about 1lb ? served 2 people.? the recipe calls for a 2lb roast but obviously serves more.
step 2 ? veggies meet meat.
the recipe called for onions only, but i had carrots & celery handy, so i threw together the tried & true mirepoix. i used a whole yellow onion as per the recipe and 2 sticks of celery & 2 carrots. then lovingly placed the seared roast on top.
step 3 ? add liquid.
the recipe told me to deglaze the pan with the wine & water, but since i seared mine at such a high heat, the pan had some black bits that i decided i should live without. also, the recipe calls for white wine ? which with beef seemed weird to me. so i used red.? also i had red open already and not white, so there?s that. i combined the following and poured it into the SC: - 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar - 1 cup tomato sauce (i used the italian kind in the glass bottle) - 1/2 cup of red wine - 1/3 cup of water of course, throw in a pinch of salt for good measure and some cracked black pepper.
step 4 ? cook on low for however long you?re going to be out of the house for.? mine went for 12 hours.
step 5 ? serve and eat up!
final thoughts ? as always, i think every recipe can benefit from chili flakes. but also i think its worth mentioning that often in recipes like this, i?ll remove the meat and use my immersion blender to puree the slow cooked veg, making the sauce thicker and more gravy-like.? that would have been delightful in this case. the vinegar gave a nice acidity but didn?t overwhelm anything and the beef turned out delightfully slow cooker perfect. and my house smelled fucking spectacular when i got home. We recently heard from Lawrence R. Gustin, the longtime Buick PR chief turned automotive historian (and author of a definitive Durant biography), who described a unique unfolding effort to honor Buick appropriately. He is going to be memorialized with two life-size bronze statues: One in Flint, Michigan, the founding home of Buick cars, and the other in his seaside hometown of Arbroath, Scotland. The Flint statue is expected to be unveiled this December. Larry sent us the above photo of Joe Rundell working on his likeness of Buick. Joe is a retired machine repairman at the Chevrolet engine plant in Flint who made a reputation doing custom engraving work on firearms before turning his talents to sculpture. The Buick project is led by Al Hatch, who chairs the Back to the Bricks car show in downtown Flint since retiring from Rockwell Automation. The group he heads is considering locating a new statue of Durant near that of Buick and an existing one of Louis Chevrolet in Flint. That would be second statue of Durant in town; the first has stood for 24 years outside the onetime headquarters of the Durant-Dort Carriage Company. As Larry tells us, Al?s idea is to eventually turn Flint into something of a sculpture garden honoring locally prominent automotive pioneers such as Walter P. Chrysler, Charlie Nash, Albert Champion, Charles Kettering and the Reuther brothers, among others.
LOS ANGELES -- Immigrants would get access to banking services in Los Angeles under a proposal by the mayor that would create an official city photo identification card that could also be used as a prepaid ATM card for their private bank account.
"It will be an official ID," Villaraigosa told the newspaper. "It will be as strong an effort as San Francisco's."
An estimated 4.3 million immigrants live in LA.
Supporters say helping immigrants open bank accounts could reduce crime because fewer people would have to carry cash. An official city ID would also make it easier for many residents to obtain city services and identify themselves to law enforcement officials, they argue.
But critics say the plan is an accommodation to immigrants who are in the country illegally.
"Los Angeles is making it easier for people who have violated federal immigration laws to live in the city," said Ira Mehlman of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a group critical of illegal immigration.
A City Council committee will discuss the ID card proposal on Tuesday, the Times said.
Card applicants would have to meet "strict" criteria, the mayor's office told the newspaper. The card, which officials say would look like a student ID, would include a photo, street address, date of birth, hair and eye color, height and weight. Law enforcement agencies could choose whether to recognize the card, and it would not substitute for a driver's license, the mayor's office said.
The city would hire an outside vendor who would charge applicants between $10 and $20 to obtain a card, and a few dollars a month for the debit service, which would be optional, the Times said.
Thousands of poor and elderly legal residents who don't have a driver's license or other identification would benefit from the program, the mayor's office told the newspaper.
