Tuesday, November 27, 2012

The Center for Rural Development?in partnership with experts from Body Recall Inc.?is hosting a fall and recovery presentation from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in Somerset to help community, health, faith-based, and business leaders, healthcare professionals and providers, and interested citizens create and refine their strategic planning efforts enabling seniors to age in place while reducing healthcare costs through fall prevention and fall recovery techniques.
?

The presentation, led by Body Recall executive director Jeff Rubin, is provided as a community service and will focus on how falls and fall prevention impact the healthcare initiative.
?

?Body Recall is delighted to partner with the Center for Rural Development in bringing this subject of falls and recovery to the leaders and communities that the center serves,? said Rubin. ?As a leading cause of emergency room visits among just about every age group, this is an issue that has gained national attention because it impacts more than just the individual.
?

?Its financial, emotional, and physical costs are being felt by families, employers, communities, and our entire health-care system,? he added. ?That?s why it?s so important for us to be working together to educate people about the impacts of falls and demonstrate what can be done through Body Recall to prevent or reduce the severity of falls, if they do.?
?

During the program, Carolyn Wallace, a certified Body Recall instructor and trainer, and students from her fall recovery team (ranging in age from 56-90-plus) will provide an exercise demonstration to show what is possible at any age and with any ability through Body Recall exercises.
?

?We are excited to reach out to our community and provide information and exercise training seniors need to live happy, productive lives,? said Laura Glover, director of sales and events at the center. ?As our population continues to age, education on fall prevention and preventative fitness will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of older adults and our communities? health care costs.?
?

Body Recall, a national nonprofit organization founded in 1978 and headquartered in Berea, is a leader in designing and teaching fitness and flexibility training programs for older adults, special needs populations, and youth. It is the only training program that includes fall prevention and fall recovery techniques as part of its core curriculum.
?

The center, a nonprofit organization serving 45 counties in Southern and Eastern Kentucky, is located at 2292 South U.S. 27 (at Traffic Light 15) in Somerset.
