Assistant Professor (Tenure-track)

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the State University of New York at Geneseo invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2013.

Candidates must have received a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy by August 20, 2013. The candidate must demonstrate interest and potential for excellent teaching throughout our undergraduate curriculum. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to establish a high quality research program involving undergraduates.

Although all areas of specialization will be considered, preference will be given to candidates who would use our in-house 1.7 MV tandem Pelletron accelerator for nuclear, materials science, or plasma physics research. Preference will also be given to candidates with expertise in astronomy and/or astrophysics. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to be a good department colleague and a good citizen of the college.

The physics program has been identified as a "thriving department" by the Strategic Programs for Innovations in Undergraduate Physics (SPIN-UP) and is one of the largest primarily undergraduate physics departments in the nation currently having over 200 physics majors. Department facilities include a Pelletron accelerator, 20-inch reflecting telescope, scanning probe microscopy lab, digital planetarium, X-ray irradiator, and cavity enhanced spectroscopy lab.
