Renner gets 'butt kicked' in 'Hansel and Gretel'

By Randee Dawn, TODAY contributor

Two nice little kids are left in the woods by their dad, they find their way into a house of candy, it's a kill-or-be-eaten situation inside with the witch who lives there, and the kids survive. But, as Jeremy Renner pointed out on TODAY Wednesday, "It didn't end there" in the fairy tale of "Hansel and Gretel."

Instead, the now-grown sibling duo are making a comeback with a very specialized profession, in "Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" starring Renner as the brother, and Gemma Arterton as the sister who have bonded over their mutual hatred of all things witchy. They joined TODAY's Matt Lauer to talk about the film, and Renner noted that the fairytale followup is seriously action-packed.?

"We have a little sense of humor for sure," he said, "but there's really no technique in the sense that it's sloppy and more Western. We get our butts kicked a lot in this. The action is sort of full-on.... it's pretty sloppy -- and a lot of fun."

"Hansel and Gretel Witch Hunters" opens in theaters Jan. 25.
