A Long Island congressman is urging the renewal of a federal ban on plastic guns that are just as deadly but don?t set off metal detectors.
Rep. Steve Israel (D-Dix Hills) cited the new possibility of building plastic guns at home using 3-D printers, potentially putting the public at risk.
Plastic guns are illegal under the Undetectable Firearms Act of 1988, which is set to expire in the New Year.
Israel is announcing the legislation to renew the ban at?a?Friday news conference at the security scanners at Long Island McArthur Airport.
